The month of June is designated as National Ocean Month. On World Oceans Day, every 8th of June, people across the globe connect with one another to honor the ocean.  It’s an opportunity for people from different nations to help protect and restore our shared ocean.

This year marks the 12th year celebration of World Oceans Day which stands as a reminder of the significance of the marine world to humanity. The theme for this year is “Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean”.

2020 Focus of attention

World Oceans Month brings together conservation efforts to help promote the global movement that calls on world leaders to protect 30% of our blue planet by 2030. This global initiative is called 30×30. If we can protect at least 30% of our land and ocean through unified efforts, we can help ensure a healthier planet.

Importance of protecting the ocean

The ocean is the Earth’s largest ecosystem and it’s our planet’s life support system. Did you know that the ocean produces more than half of the world’s oxygen? We need air to breathe and water to drink that’s why our ocean plays a major role in our existence. We also get food from the ocean and it helps regulate our climate. With its extensive biodiversity and species that have yet to be discovered, the ocean also happens to be a good source for new medicines.

Aside from physical health, the ocean is also good for our inner well-being. Going to the ocean helps us relieve stress. The beauty of its natural surroundings and the colorful underwater world have a way of relaxing the senses. When the hustle and bustle of city life become too burdensome, a trip to the ocean can help lift the tired spirit.

With all these benefits, it’s only fitting that we protect this precious natural resource. After all, we share one ocean and it’s our responsibility to take good care of it.

Every inspiring action that centers on protecting the ocean and promoting the sustainable use of marine resources goes a long way.

Unite and celebrate the ocean

Nemo Diving Center is one with the world in caring for the ocean. Environmental responsibility is one of our guiding principles.  We share our passion for protecting the marine environment with fellow divers who enroll in our courses or join our scuba diving  UAE excursions by spreading awareness. Nemo Diving Center believes that teaching divers about marine conservation help ensure that the next generation can still enjoy the ocean’s beauty and richness.

We think of ourselves as one of the guardians of the ocean. It breaks our hearts to know that human threats continue to devastate the underwater world that we love so much. This is why we endeavor to open the eyes of our divers about these major hazards. Marine pollution is one of the major threats that is endangering the marine world and marine life. As an environmentally-friendly dive center, we practice sustainable diving. We also organize marine clean-up dives to help reduce plastic waste and other debris across UAE. Get in touch with us if you’re interested to join our diving trips.
